Biography

Antonis Lagos

Born in Athens in 1970, Antonis Lagos received his first music lessons from his father at the age of six.

Between 1983 and 1991, he studied under Νikos Koranzinos at the Athens Conservatory, from where he received his diploma with a distinction.

From 2000 to 2002 he studied under Francis Orval at the Trossigen State Academy of Music, from which he received his post-graduate diploma.

As a soloist, he has performed with the Athens State Orchestra, the State Orchestra of Thessaloniki, the Cyprus State Orchestra, the Greek Radio and Television National Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of Colours, the Patras Orchestra, and at the Athens Concert Hall in the Chamber Music Cycle, performing Brahms, Schumann and Beethoven, as well as in a number of other chamber music concerts in Greece and abroad.

Between 1988 and 1990, he represented Greece in the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra and the European Community Youth Orchestra under conductors such as Bernard Haiting and Jeffrey Tate.

Since 1993, he has been principal musician with the Greek Radio and Television National Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of Colours, and the Camerata Friends of Music Orchestra. He is a member of the Melos Brass quintet, with whom he has also recorded.

For Greek radio, he has recorded C. M. von Weber's Concertino, Reinhold Glier's Concerto and Schumann's Concerto for Four Horns with the Greek Radio and Television National Symphony Orchestra.

He teaches in the music department of the Ionian University, at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory, at the Raimondis Conservatory and at the municipal conservatory of Ayia Paraskevi.

From 2003 he and Melos Brass have established the annual Ionian Summer Academy in Corfu,and he has cooperated with internationally acknowledged soloist and professors such as: T. Dokshizer,Ch.Lindberg,Michel Becquet,Frits Damrow,Chris Martin,Jens Bjon-Larsen,Ben Van Dijk,Bo Nilsson,Walter Hilgers,James Thompson,G.Jones,Jay Friedman,H.Halien,H.Macdonald,L.Benucci,Jorgen Van Rijen,Canadian Brass,German Brass,Mnozil Brass,

From 2008 he and Melos Brass have the artisic direction of the annual Brass Festival at Megaron,Athens consert Hall.
